Numeric keypad not working on the computer.

I got a new HP probook laptop recently.
It had to be taken to the warranty centre a couple of days later because the esc button was broken.
After getting Linux removed - the OS given free with the comp - Windows 7 was purchased and installed instead.
The
numeric keypad up/down/home/end keys don't function now.
What could the problem be.

As per the description I understand that you are not able to use numeric keypad.
There could be several reasons for causing this issue, like numeric keypad is turned off, keyboard drivers are not installed correctly or third-party application conflict.
Let’s try to identify the actual cause and troubleshoot accordingly.
However, before we proceed I would require some more information to assist you better.
1.
Do you see "NUM LOCK" indicator light when you use numeric keypad?
2.
What is the exact model number of the laptop?
3.
Have you installed all the drivers after installing Windows 7?
If the "NUM LOCK" key is turned OFF then you may not be able to use numeric keypad until you turn it ON.
I would suggest you to try enabling numeric keypad and check if it helps.
To do so, follow the methods given bellow:
Method 1:
Press the "NUM Lock" key on your computer's keyboard and check if it is lit by an Light Emitting Diode(LED) light.
or
Try pressing Function (Fn) key along with Number lock or On Fn key to make changes on the number pad to do other functions.
Method 2:
a.
Click on Start.
b.
Type OSK in the start search box and press Enter.
c.
On Screen Keyboard (OSK) will be open.
d.
Try using the keys from the OSK and check if it works.
If you face the same issue while using the OSK, then go to step e.
e.
Click on Options in the right bottom of the OSK.
f.
Check the option Turn on numeric keypad.
Then you should be able to see the Virtual Num Lock, you may click on it to check for the LED indications on the keyboard as well as the numbers on the Keyboard.
